The Challenge

What if there was a better way to purchase a "Made to Measure" suit?

Asked to reinvigorating Joseph Abboud’s "Made to Measure" business with its leading retailer Nordstrom, our team set out to change the customer in-store experience that often can be an intimidating, overwhelming and daunting process not only for new customers but to loyal returning customers as well.

 

So we started exploring ways in which to take a 4 inch thick, 9 pound swatch book that has more then 120 technical drawings and over 400 swatches into a brand experience instead of a chore.

Ideation 

 

I  started the ideation process by visiting stores and going through the made to measure process with sales associates of different ages and taste preferences to understand their unique approach to creating the perfect made to measure suit.

What we found was that there was not one linear process they followed but a collaborative conversation with the customer to determine what there style needs or goals were. These decision factors could range from a specific style siloutte, fabric weight, color, price or a specific occasion such as a wedding or black-tie event.

 

From these findings we realized our initial ideas would need to be altered to better fit the 1200 plus sales associates selling styles and experience with a "Made to Measure" product.

So from a blank sheet of paper I started envisioning a new approach.

Re-Imagined

What if the new "Made to Measure" experience enhanced the brand ?

After countless hours of concepting, sketching and team collaboration we started to envision a new experience for the Joseph Abboud Brand from the "Made to Measure" experience that would included video content, brand history and the most current trends curated by the Joseph Abboud's design director Bernardo Rioja. This content would help to influence and transcend the Nordstrom Selling environment and extend the brands vision right onto the Nordstrom showroom.

Our team of UX designers and developers created, produced and developed the Personal Style System iPad application for the Joseph Abboud custom tailored collection.

The Joseph Abboud "Made to Measure" iPad application launched in 2012 in 110 Nordstrom stores as an interactive collaborative experience and transactional tool for Nordstrom sales associates. The experience  strengthens the brand’s new image as a category innovator.

The solution features live inventory and fabric updating capabilities, and ties directly into the manufacturing system to allow for real time client and product updates and intelligence.

Results 

With the release of the iPad application Joseph Abboud's "Made to Measure" garment sales more then doubled from 2011 to 2012 with more then 16,000  "Made to Measure" units sold after the launch of the iPad. The 2013 results are currently trending to exceed more  then 19,000 "Made to Measure" units.

 

        

 

 

 


 

Looks Who's Talking

The Joseph Abboud made to measure application not only created a buzz in the men's fashion circles but in addition tech and business media outlets drove the story past just the projected fashion PR channels.
